What is a STEM Fair?
- An event where every project entry has a testable question or problem identified.
- An event that showcases the connection between science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics
- An opportunity for students to explore the natural world and apply scientific skills and processes while seeking knowledge, but approaching their projects with a creative, or 'artistic' perspective.
-An opportunity for schools to showcase student accomplishments
For more details see the following for Grades 3-6: STEM Fair Workbook For Kindergarten to Grade 2 scientists, use the simplified Scientific Method as reference.
Working with a Partner
You may work on your project independently, or you may optionally work with a partner who is also a student at Ridgewood Elementary, for example, a classmate or a sibling. Projects should be student driven.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic.
See this link for ideas : Resources on the Internet. In addition, one-on-one help is available at the STEM Fair workshop.
Judging and awards
Our goal is to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to a STEM Fair judge. They will each receive a ribbon. Questions will be presented in an informal and positive manner. Review the STEM Packets for details: K-2nd Judging Sheet, 3-6 Scientific Judging Sheet, & 3-6 Engineering Judging Sheet

Submit your photos
During the week of the STEM Fair, we will be displaying some photos on the bulletin board in the hall! So parents -- while your young scientist is busy conducting that wild experiment, sneak out your digital camera and capture some shots. Then upload them here by the day prior to the event so we can include them in our science collage. Thanks for your help!
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the STEM fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. We have all kinds of different jobs to be done, so if you think you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help. Please contact Mr. Hoell at Steven.Hoell@kent.k12.wa.us.
Supplies Available to Students in Need
Free tri-fold boards available to students who qualify for free/reduced meals. All students however, must register by the deadline. Please contact Mr. Hoell at Steven.Hoell@kent.k12.wa.us. Tri-fold boards are also available at Bartell Drugs in Fairwood.
